Telfer Opts for Studs

Newcrest Mining’s continuous push for productivity improvements at Telfer has been assisted by a WA designer and manufacturer of wearstuds.

SW16S and SW20S wearstuds supplied by Studwise were chosen for wear protection in the dump trays of all new 785 dump trucks and in all the loading buckets

The studs in the trays in particular have resulted in dramatic productivity increases…

The main advantages is their lightweight (10:1 weight reduction over wearplate) providing the opportunity to lift carrying capacity by up to 10 tonne per truck while providing long lasting protection AND the localised maintenance element. On Newcrest's sums the improvements are measured as an extra 1.15 million tonnes of material a year.

The financial and time savings we have experienced through the use of Studwise Wearstuds has allowed us to focus on other areas of concern…. Alcoa has since increased annual tonnage beyond the designated capacity of their fixed plant. We will continue to use Studwise SW16S, WS20S and SW20LS on their screen decks and other wear sensitive areas.

Hanson (Pioneer Quarries), Bunbury

All applications on site are working far better than anticipated and the crew is now looking for other areas where we can use them. Wear areas that we once had that took up a great deal of time in maintenance are now problems of the past, allowing us time to concentrate on other priorities, namely production.

The quarry 980F bucket that once required a great deal of time in maintenance protection is now wearing exceptionally well and the ‘rock box’ effect created by the build up is also helping to prolong the life of the moduloc system and in effect saving us money. Protection fitted to the crushers is also saving a great deal of time in on-going maintenance and even in areas of direct impact not one button has been damaged or broken off.

Readymix gosnelLs

There is a definite increase in service life to the edges on these buckets. Life expectancy would be est. 8000 hours before any maintenance is required. The studs are performing well in both stockpile and face areas. We would like to try putting studs in another hard facing area in our 54" El-jay crusher.
